Edge Race Cup 06/22/2010

This weekend saw the Edge Race Cup, hosted by 3 time world champ, Steph Bridge.
A light forecast didnt deter 24 entrants from across the country.
Saturday started with light winds so SUP racing was the go. After casually paddling through the early rounds I had to put some effort in in the final with the tide starting to rip through abd managed to take the win from North rep Callum.
After lunch the wind picked up slighty, just enough for 2 races at around 8knts but I couldn't keep up with the lightweigts.
Sunday wasn't muc different with the light Northerly breeze being cancelled out by the sea breeze which eventually won over and racing started with around 8 knts of breeze again. Struggling to keep pace upwind, even with nailing the starts I was off the pace. 3 races were run and I managed 4th overall with my 85kgs against the next lightest of 72.
For the long distance races the wind slightly filled in and without the need to go upwind, my training paid off and I comfortably took the win.
Thanks to Steph and the Edge team for organising a fun weekend.

Just back from an epic session on the 7 at overhead G land. Best conditions ever down there for wind from the right so on my front side. Looks like more of the same tomorrow if the swell holds up. Fingers crossed. In the new 3mm Lotus by West and for sure most comfy wetsuit ever.
Got more booking for Pasty Adventures which is going well. If you need kitesurfing lessons or coaching in Cornwall go to the website www.pastyadventures.co.uk

Had my first twin tip session for about 2 years today. Riding the 2010 Jamie and Evo 7 was good to get back in the groove and know i can still do some tricks, ready for coaching sessions with my school www.pastyadventures.co.uk
Landed some nice kiteloops, boardoffs and managed to nail a mobe. The new Jamie is so sweet with loads of pop, was loving in when could find a flat spot in amongst the chop at marazion.
As the tide dropped jumped on the surfboard for some waves and strapless jumping and laned some real high clean backloops and a backloop kiteloop with a small butt check on landing.
Cant wait for to start coaching so if you want Kitesurf Lessons in Cornwall, check out the website.
cheers

I am pleased to announce that my school Pasty Adventures is now open and ready for bookings for kitesurf & powerkite lessons in Cornwall. Based in St Ives in the far West of Cornwall we will be using Gwithian and Marazion as well as all the other beaches and kite spots we have, to make best use of any wind conditions and to suit requirements.
I am now working towards adding other sports and adventure packages so that we can give you the best possible experience of what Cornwall has to offer, whatever the weather.
As well as beginners lessons we will be offering intermediate, advenced, wave and race coaching as well as kite & surf guiding packages, including kit available for demo from North Kiteboarding, Resin8 surfboards, Ultimate style and more.
Be sure to check the website www.pastyadventures.co.uk and please contact me if you need more info.
Happy Riding

After 5 days in a row of some quality surf, the wind is now on its way back starting with a race board session later on and fingers crossed some good wave riding conditions on sunday and monday although will probably have the photographers curse as supersaturated tv are coming down to film for their UK Wave vid.
Been riding my new Resin8 5'11 sam egan every day and super impressed with its surf performance in waves from 3-5ft. looking foreward to kiting on it now as im sure it will fly when its small.
Fingers crossed for some epic conditions so we can really show how good kitesurfing in cornwall can be to the world.
will post pics next week.
happy holidays

So first event of the year was run fri , sat, sunday and suprise suprise, no wind.
Even with the dismal forecast 15 riders still made the journey down, all kitted up with the latest course boards and kites ready to show off their hard winter training.
Friday and the wind was dead offshore but around 10knts so after a press release for the launch of kitesurfing in the UK we all headed out to start race 1. With a shifting breeze the course had to be adjusted and by the time it was ready for us to start the wind switched off and we all had to be rescued.
I was feeling pretty confident with my speed against the others though and keen for more wind over the weekend.
Well a gentle sea breeze did come in and averaged at 6mph on saturday. 2 races were held but i was so underpowered on the North ltd while Denzil and Jason were flying on there big wide boards.
Was pleased with my starts but had my soul destroyed as both races they flew past pointing 30 degrees higher upwind!
New boards on the way so should not be a problem for the next event. Still 3rd is ok to use as a discard!
Going to keep the training up so i can continue on my quest for 2 British Titles this year, Waves and Racing!
Thanks to my sponsors for their continuing support, North, Resin8, Freeriders and West and most of all my family and amazing girlfriend Tara ;) who was loving it on the jet ski.

Well after around 3 weeks of constant wind and surf, it has finally gone flat here in sunny cornwall.
Time to work now and hit the gym in hope that the wind will come back for next weeks BKSA comp at Watergate.
some pics of the last day when it was smaller at Gwithian thanks to http://joecockle.blogspot.com/
and how good is the Evo 7! try one now

Yesterday saw plenty of wind 35knts with gust well into the 50s but some nice waves at levy. Had 3 hours picking off the sets all on my lonesome stacked on my 6m while Ding (www.supersaturated.tv) got some footage for his upcoming UK Wave vid.
Been scouring the coast today but just too blown out and no swell on the south coast due to the 40knt gusting 60 NW winds.
Looks good for tomorrow and the rest of the week so should have plenty more footage for the vid.
