9th KSP Pacasmayo, Peru 11/14/2011
I recently got back from an epic comp in Peru followed by a week of getting barreled in Lobitos. Pretty pleased with my 9th place which has put me in 8th on the IKA official ranking with just the Cape Verde event to go next month. Still should of gone through to the quarters as had the highest wave score of round 4 but got a little hung up on my backup wave which the judges said after the event, cost me 1 point and i only lost by 0.34! Still Pacasmayo is an amazing place with super friendly and welcoming people and of course super long waves. We were staying at the El Faro adventure resort, which is a great place with lovely wodden cabanas and super cool staff who even pump and Had some amazing surfs with one morning catching a wave from the top of the point all the way back to the hotel. Sky measured the distance after on google and it was 1.25 miles. Sick! and i did this about 15 times surfing and 30 times kiting during the 2 weeks i was there in waves in the 6-8ft range. Light wind was the name of the game the whole time and i only used the 2012 North Rebel 11m on 25m lines along with my Resin8 Scoops in size 6'0 and 5'7. These boards were perfect for the wave here and so impressed by the feel. the 5'7 is a magic board and i suggest you get one before they run out!!! The comp was won by Guilly Brandao (brasil) 2010 world champ and Milla Ferreria (brasil) who were both ripping and definately had the right tactics for this wave of waiting for the good ones. Guilly only rode 2 waves in the final which is risky if you fall but paid off for him and he killed it with some super critical backside turns. After the comp I went to Lobitos for a week, pics and write up to come once the mags have chosen what they want. Pics from the comp below. Stay tuened for the Ponta Preta pro in Cape Verde starting 2nd Dec. ![]() Callum receiving his prize Pasty Adventures Racing Saturday 14th August saw the first Pasty Adventures race day at Newlyn, Penzance. With 7 of the country’s top racers coming to kitesurf in Cornwall and a Northerly force 6 blowing, the action was intense. With Lee’s dad acting as race officer along with several helpers on board their fishing boat, a lengthy upwind downwind course was set with the start/finish line half way up the beat acting as a gate. Using 10 & 11 meter kites and the new breed of wide boards from North, speeds were well above 30knts for the guys at the front with some spectacular wipeouts coming from the guys towards the back as they were trying to stay in touch with the top 3. Taking the prize Pasty and continuing his winning ways from the BKSA Barrow event was Callum Edge with 3 firsts and 2 seconds, proving that time on the water and practising with the new wider boards is key to winning races. Denzil Williams was not far behind with a couple of firsts and organiser Lee Harvey snapping at their heels in 3rd but slightly lacking pointing ability upwind. A great success and a valuable training session for the UK’s top racers, Pasty Adventures will be running many more in the run up to the 2011 Course Race Worlds in Tarifa. Big thanks to Mike Harvey for providing the committee boat and setting the course, Adam Harvey for time keeping, Dave Scooby for flags and Joe Cockle for camera and video. Thanks to support and prizes from North Kiteboarding, Westcountry Watersports, Gul, Freeriders surf shop and 9 Bar. Stay tuned to www.pastyadventures.co.uk for all your kitesurf needs in Cornwall, the next race day and much more coming up in the autumn, including wave clinics, guiding, surf coaching and adventures. Just back from an epic session on the 7 at overhead G land. Best conditions ever down there for wind from the right so on my front side. Looks like more of the same tomorrow if the swell holds up. Fingers crossed. In the new 3mm Lotus by West and for sure most comfy wetsuit ever. Got more booking for Pasty Adventures which is going well.
